How the Gallery Began
In January 2018 Gina Marshall, a successful Dorset artist, set up a new art gallery in Swanage, Dorset.
Known for her strong, bold and colourful semi- abstract art of the Dorset coastline, Gina invited three other carefully selected artists to complement her work. Gill Williams is a watercolour artist with a unique style expressed through lines and inspired by the local area. Nicky Stockley is a recent art postgraduate in illustration who loves the fantastical, using gold leaf in her intricate drawings. She also designs beautiful colourful scarves and cushions. Mary Clutterbuck paints lively scenes of people around Swanage, working en Plein Air then finishing them in the gallery. Jeneta Bird is influenced by her trips from Poole to Swanage, depicting the sea and sand of Studland in acrylics.
Working in the Gallery
The five artists all work in the gallery, usually working on a piece of their artwork while you browse. Take a look at what they are doing and ask questions about their techniques.
In addition to these there are a selection of other talented local artists who also sell their work through the gallery, including Helene Champrond, Briony Maple, Holly Sandham, Jade Cameron, Moira Hazel, Stephen Yates, Katherine Message, Tom Marshall and Ed Marriott.
The upstairs gallery is also used as workshop space on Mondays where Nicky Stockley runs her Purbeck Painters course. If you would like to join our monthly mailing list for updates of workshop opportunities and special events, please contact us.
Gina hopes to introduce a fresh variety of local artists, both new and established, from Purbeck and beyond, to not only sell but also inspire creativity and art appreciation.
